While using my M1L to listen to the 2.3, I observed a more prominent smile curve in the sound profile, with heightened contrast in sound and a slightly more engaging high frequency range. The increased sibilance suggested a higher level of quality. Personally, I find the listening experience of the 1.2 model more preferable. However, there are exceptions. During an event, a fellow enthusiast who had acquired the 2.3 model passionately elaborated on its technical features and sound characteristics. Subsequently, he allowed me to listen to it using his NEX phone.
The VIVO NEX S phone stands out as a reputable HiFi device that continues to garner praise from enthusiasts. Having experienced what is touted as the top-tier version (Qualcomm 845, 8+256G), I listened to the theme song "Before the world ends..." from the anime Slam Dunk on QQ Music. The NEX impresses with its high-quality sound, albeit with a different sound profile than my M1L. While the M1L, possibly due to its utilization of the CS4398 chip, provides a warmer, balanced, and natural sound with average resolution, the NEX exhibits superior resolution, delivering clear, direct sound with robust dynamics and a modern, engaging tone. However, the sibilance with the 2.3 appeared more pronounced. To my surprise, the fellow enthusiast connected the phone to Tralucent's T1 headphone amplifier, resulting in a transformative listening experience. The sound quality drastically improved, with reduced harshness, cleaner and transparent sound, smoother high frequencies, enhanced airiness, heightened musicality, and a touch of ethereal quality. Ultimately, it showcased a more holistic sound performance compared to the 1.2. Listening to Sally Yen's "Burning My Heart With Fire" revealed solid, clear drumbeats with distinct strength and weakness. Jamyang Dolma's "The Hulunbeir Grassland" featured full and relaxed vocals, expansive sound stage, and a transformed rendition of the familiar song, leaving a truly remarkable impression.
